Administrative Presidency Minister Jose Ramon Peralta has confirmed that in order to change the Constitution to allow Danilo Medina to be re-elected, the decision to do so must first be made by the ruling PLD party’s Political Committee.
He said that the latest surveys showed that Medina had an approval rating of 93.2%, and that the people wanted him to be re-elected. Peralta added that the polls found that the PLD has an approval of 60 to 61%, but with Medina as President this increases to 75.4%.
He said nonetheless that it was up to the President to decide whether he wanted to run again, which would then depend on an internal decision by the party, i.e. the Political Committee.
He stressed that re-election did not depend on Danilo Medina, but that the key was in the hands of others.
