Luz y Fuerza asks SIE to tell the truth

The general manager of the Luz y Fuerza power company in Las Terrenas, Alejandra Orsini, has asked the Superintendence of Electricity (SIE) to tell the truth about the situation the community is experiencing.

In an interview with Listin Diario, Orsini says it is impossible to reduce electricity rates by 50%, as the SIE has been promising to do. She told reporters that the proposal for the company to purchase energy from Edenorte was illegal and that the logical thing to do in order to supply the current and future needs of the area is to install a 138,000 V line that directly connects to the National Grid (SENI), which could take two years.

“The electricity law prohibits a distributor from buying energy from another distributor and we are not going to violate the law,” said Orsini, adding that the Superintendence has not informed them about an interconnection that they are installing in the area. According to Orsini, Luz y Fuerza has asked the Superintendence to set the technical tariff so that customers are informed and pay what is fair, but no reply has been received.

Luz y Fuerza held the concession for power distribution in Las Terrenas in the northeastern province of Samana, but an internal shareholder conflict has been affecting the company in recent months.
