The director of the Center for Exports and Investments (CEI-RD) Jean Alain Rodriguez says that exports experienced a 16% increase between 2010 and 2013, from US$589.96 million in 2010 to US$702.12 million in 2013. He made the statement during the opening words for the “How to Export to Europe” workshop held yesterday, Thursday 12 February 2015. He said the DR is the largest exporter of fresh organic bananas to Europe and second largest in cocoa bean exports, third in fresh banana exports, fourth in medical devices and fifth in sugar cane rum exports.
Rodriguez said that the CEI-RD is calculating the 2014 export totals and that preliminary figures are also showing a small increase.
He said the DR exports 3,700 lines of products to 173 countries. The CEI director concluded by saying that traditional exports represent only 20% of exports.
