Football league season starts 8 March

The Dominican Football League (LDF) season starts on 8 March 2015. In its first year, 10 clubs will be taking part. At the JW Marriott at Blue Mall yesterday, Thursday 12 February, Football Federation president, Osiris Guzman announced that the league would create around 1,000 direct jobs and another 4,000 indirect jobs from the start.

They are:

Atlantico Futbol Club (Puerto Plata), Club Atletico Vega Real (La Vega), Club Atletico Pantoja, Club Atletico de San Cristobal (San Cristobal), Club Barcelona Atletico, Bauger Futbol Club, Cibao Futbol Club (Santiago), Moca Futbol Club (Moca), La Romana Futbol Club (La Romana) and O&M Futbol Club.

The teams will compete for a silver-plated cup designed by Felix Ledesma and manufactured by the same company that makes the cup for the Spanish Football Federation.

Speaking at the event, Luisin Mejia said, “Those of us who direct sports long for moments like this one.”

During the six-month season, matches will be played at the Felix Sanchez Olympic Stadium and the Parque del Este sports complex in Santo Domingo, in Moca, Santiago, Puerto Plata, San Cristobal, La Vega and La Romana on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Each team will play 18 games in the regular season, followed by a round robin and four of the 10 participants will qualify. At that time, the first and fourth winners will match, and the second and third to decide the final in a single game.

The games will be played according to FIFA rules.
