One sextuplet dies, another fights to survive

Baby boy Anderson, one of the sextuplets born to 32-year old Aracelis Guzman Martinez at the Reyaldo Almanzar Maternity Hospital in northern Santo Domingo died on Wednesday, 11 February 2015. The sextuplets (three boys and three girls) born prematurely (34 weeks) on Sunday, 8 February weighing 2.2 to 3.5 lbs have been in care of the hospital’s intensive care unit.

The fourth to be born, weighing 992 just grams, is also in a very delicate condition, according to hospital staff.

A report in El Dia says that the sextuplets have already cost the Dominican government RD$4 million. The cost of caring for the babies is estimated at RD$150,000 each per day.
