ANJE says no to changing Constitution again

Young Entrepreneurs Association (ANJE) president, lawyer Biviana Riveiro, has expressed her organization’s opposition to any attempt at changing the 2010 Constitution to allow for the re-election of the highly popular President, Danilo Medina. All polls show that if Medina were allowed run for office again in 2016, he would win the election.

However, Riveiro says that the time has come to think of the longer term.

She said that the country does not deserve the Constitution to be changed to suit Presidents. She said that was the Constitution on which Medina won the election and that it is a cause for concern that the President may want to manage the Constitution at his whim. Riveiro pointed out that on average, the Constitution has been modified every 4.3 years.

“As a country we do not give the Constitution the true value that it deserves,” she said.
