President Danilo Medina visited former President Leonel Fernandez at his home yesterday, Saturday, 14 February 2015. The politicians did not reveal the topics of their half-hour long conversation.
Political analyst Rosario Espinal told Diario Libre, “Even if they say they did not discuss the Quirino accusations, the visit occurred amidst that uproar. Danilo Medina’s presence was enough to send a message that there is no confrontation between himself and Fernandez.
Espinal said that the group that visited Fernandez was balanced between followers of both PLD leaders. These included Franklin Almeyda Rancier, Senate president Cristina Lizardo, former Vice President Rafael Alburquerque, Minister of Women Alejandrina German, Metro Office (OPRET) director Diandino Pena, and President Medina’s assistant Carlos Pared Perez.
Fernandez served as President of the Republic between 1996-2000, 2004-2008 and 2008-2012.
