Indian Minister of State for External Affairs, Retired General Vijay Kumar Singh met with Foreign Affairs Minister Andres Navarro at the Ministry of Foreign Relations yesterday, Monday 16 February 2015. Minister Singh is in Santo Domingo on an official three-day visit.
The 63-year old retired general and Minister of State for External Affairs of India is the second at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in India. ??
As reported, his visit is aimed at strengthening links with the members of the Central American Integration System (SICA) of which the Dominican Republic currently holds the presidency.
Minister Singh highlighted that his visit was part of his government’s objective of strengthening relations with the countries of Central America, Latin America and the Caribbean in a new era of diplomacy in the world that calls for closer ties.
Minister Navarro said: “For decades the DR and India have had harmonious and cordial relations, which has contributed to developing projects that benefit people in different areas.”
As part of his visit, Minister Singh is meeting with President Danilo Medina and Medina administration cabinet ministers, including ministers of Energy and Mines, Foreign Relations and Industry and Commerce. A reception in his honor was held at the Santo Domingo Hilton on Monday evening, 16 February 2015. He is speaking at the Institute of Higher Studies in Diplomatic and Consular Training and his visit includes a breakfast meeting at the Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic and a visit to the Colonial City today, Tuesday, 17 February 2015.
