In a meeting held yesterday, Monday 16 February 2015, the Central Electoral Board (JCE) announced that 46 centers abroad would now be able to issue the new identity card (cedula) to Dominicans living overseas. A total of 33 new centers have been added.
The JCE overseas centers in the US include locations in Brooklyn, the Bronx, Long Island and Queens in New York, and in Connecticut. The JCE will also add centers in St. Martin, Guadeloupe, Aruba, Curacao and Bonaire, French Guiana, and Antigua and Barbuda in the Caribbean. The other locations where new centers are being opened include Caracas, Venezuela and the Canary Islands in Spain.
So far 108,446 citizens living overseas have obtained their new ID card with 35,864 issued in New York, 12,961 in New Jersey, 11,491 in Puerto Rico and 28,389 in Spain.
