PLD co founder dies

Yesterday, Monday 16 February 2015, Antonio Abreu (Tonito) passed away at his home in Piantini in Santo Domingo. He was the co-founder of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) and the party’s first Secretary General. He also served as Dominican consul in Paris.

His remains were transferred to the Blandino Funeral Home and he will be cremated tomorrow, Wednesday 18 February 2015. There will be the usual honors given to a senior political figure.

Tonito Abreu was born in La Vega and left the ranks of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD) in 1973 to join Professor Juan Bosch to form a new party, the PLD. He then left the PLD in 1978 to form another new party, the Union Democratic Party (UD) but returned to the PLD in 2005.
