Luz y Fuerza, the private electricity company in Samana, is warning that the 34.5-kilowatt line that state-owned power distribution company Edenorte is planning to install in Las Terrenas to connect it with the National Interconnected Electricity System (SENI) is not a viable technical or economic solution as it does not have the capacity to fulfill the required electricity demand.
Luz y Fuerza claims that the line only has capacity for one million kilowatt hours per month and at present Luz y Fuerza is distributing 2.2 million kilowatt hours per month.
The company highlighted that the objective of reducing the tariff without affecting the quality of service would not work using this method, and the residents of Las Terrenas, Las Galeras and El Limon as well as the tourist sector would all be affected.
Luz y Fuerza general manager Alejandra Orsini presented the results of a technical study that backed her argument that the solution proposed by the Electricity Superintendence (SIE) would not work.
She said that a viable technical solution would be to build a 138,000-volt line to connect Luz y Fuerza with SENI, which would ensure the required quality of service. http://www.diariolibre.com/economia/2015/02/17/i1017441_advierten-edenorte-puede-suplir-demanda-electricidad-las-terrenas.html
