The National Congress will be the first government department to install a solar powered electricity system. Yesterday, Thursday 19 February 2015, Energy and Mines Minister Pelegrin Castillo met with Senate president Cristina Lizardo to make the announcement.
The Ministry of Energy and Mines is implementing a Solar Electrification Program that seeks to reduce electricity costs for government entities. Lizardo expects the installation of the solar panels in Congress to serve as an example for other government entities. Castillo said the installation is expected to reduce power consumption by Congress by 50%.
