The Dominican Medical Association (CMD) has called off a two-day strike it had announced for all of the hospitals around the country after reaching an agreement with the authorities at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) on the cost of securing residencies and of the post graduate thesis.
According to the terms of the agreement, instead of having to pay RD$6,000 for the guarantee of a residency, this can now be paid at RD$500 a month, and the RD$10,000 required for the thesis has been reduced to RD$8,000, payable in two installments for medical students in their last year of residency. Students in their first three years of residency will still pay the RD$10,000 but it will be divided into three installments.
