The National Police have arrested Asolin Perez, known as the “King of Marijuana” in Santo Domingo East. He is thought to be the leader of a national and international drug-dealing ring made up of Dominicans and Haitians.
Police spokesman Jacobo Mateo Moquete said that Perez was linked to operations in Haiti and in the Dominican Republic, and worked out of a drug warehouse in Jimani on the southwestern border with Haiti where he reportedly handled 300 lb of marijuana a week with an estimated street value of RD$14 million a month. The marijuana was then sold in the Santo Domingo slum neighborhoods of Capotillo, Guachupita and Sabana Perdida.
The Police reported that in 2011 he shot at a patrol and injured an army Lieutenant Colonel and in 2012, the National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) said he belonged to the same network and confiscated around 409 pounds of marijuana.
