Number of repatriated Dominicans on the increase

The United States Immigration and Customs Department repatriated a group of 130 Dominicans yesterday, Tuesday 24 February 2015. They have completed jail sentences in the United States for a variety of crimes, 70 of them for drug dealing.

This is the largest group repatriated so far this year and brings the total repatriations to 406 for 2015, which is 55% higher than during the same time period last year.

They arrived at Las Americas airport in the early afternoon, accompanied by Federal Agents. Some were handcuffed, as the US authorities considered them dangerous.

As well as drug-related offenses, others had been jailed for murder, rape, fraud, robbery and assault, arson and kidnapping.

They were taken to the Immigration Office where they were processed and many were then taken to the National Police, Department of National Security (DNI) and National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) especially those who have outstanding warrants in this country.
