According to the National Police in the northern region, a US citizen drowned when swimming in the Atlantic Ocean in Puerto Plata province earlier this week.
The victim was named as 47-year old Yevgeny Yurkovetsky who was staying at the Riu Bachata hotel in Cofresi and he was in the ocean at the hotel beach together with his wife, Natalia Yurkovetsky, 41, also a US citizen, when a wave swept them out to a deeper waters. They were both rescued and taken to a private clinic in Puerto Plata where he passed away.
His body has been taken to the Regional Forensic Science Institute in Santiago for autopsy.
