26-year old Colombian Robigzon Oyola (EPM-UNE) won the Independence Cycling Tour yesterday, Sunday 1 March, in a time of 24 hours, 28 minutes and 56 seconds. He had been in top form, previously winning the leading Colombian cycling tour. Second by 13 seconds was fellow teammate Edward Stiver Ortiz. Chris Butler of the United States SmartStop team was third, 20 seconds behind. Diego Milan (Inteja n MMR Dominican Cycling Team) was fifth by 2:07 minutes, the best performing Dominican. The Smartstop team did the best with an overall ranking of 73 hours, 26 minutes and 57 seconds. Colombia’s EPM-UNE team was next.
Anderson Timoteo Paredes of Colombia won in the Youth category, and Evan Huffman of the United States won the Mountains category. Jaime Castaneda ranked first in points.
The race had eight stages but one, Moca to Constanza, was cancelled after supporters of one Dominican competitor affected the flow of the race.
