In an editorial today, Monday 2 March 2015, Diario Libre encourages convicted drug dealer and former army colonel Quirino Ernesto Castillo to tell all. “The Quirino factor has evolved into a powerful political weapon that could affect more than one person. The force of his revelations will depend on his including everyone who helped or cooperated with him, and on what his objectives may be.
“There is no doubt that up to now only one camp has been affected, but there are more. The force of his tale is that of a dying man, ‘who does not lie at that decisive hour’, but we know if he has a dark soul, he can lie to harm whoever adversely affects him.
“Quirino needs to talk clearly about different aspects of his life: as a member of the army, as a drug dealer, as a financier of local and national political campaigns, who he paid for protection.
“He doesn’t have to say it all, but he has to say what is essential. For example: all the free zone industry business owners are marked because the truck with the drugs was allegedly headed to a free zone. Quirino should say, at least, where it was going, to remove suspicion from all the others.
“Quirino will only be credible if he tells the full story,” concludes the columnist.
