5.6 million have new voting cards

Central Electoral Board (JCE) president Roberto Rosario says that as of 3 March 2015, 6,326,828 people had applied for the new ID and voter card (cedula). Of this total, 5,678,443 eligible voters have completed the renewal process. The new card is needed to vote in the 2016 election. Rosario estimates that a further 20% of Dominicans still needs to renew their cards.

People who have obtained the new ID but are not eligible to vote include 15,071 minors (aged 16 to 18), 46,885 military personnel, 32,028 police agents, and 23,819 legal foreigners.
