Arrest order for Venezuelan bankers sent to Interpol

The Dominican judicial authorities have issued an arrest order against the three chief executives of Banco Peravia. Bank executives Venezuelans Jose Luis Santoro, Gabriel Jimenez Aray and Daniel Morales Santoro left the country shortly before the bank was intervened following fraud claims by customers.

The Banking Superintendence recently announced that savers who had accounts in Banco Peravia with less than RD$500,000 can now retrieve their money from the bankrupt bank via the governmental Banco de Reservas. Almost RD$45 million is available belonging to 6,721 account holders at the bank, which is just over 95% of the total number of customers.

However, the remaining 320 account holders with sums over the insured RD$500,000 will have to wait for the case to be heard in Dominican courts.

The arrest order was delivered to Interpol for their arrest.

According to an investigation by the Superintendence of Banks, the executives irregularly removed more than US$32.5 million from client bank savings.

The three men are accused of conspiracy to commit various crimes and launder assets worth more than RD$1.3 billion.

In 2013, journalists from Primicias24.com notified the Dominican Embassy in Venezuela of alleged illicit activities by the owners of the Banco Peravia, including asset laundering and corruption in Venezuela.
