Dominican consulates in Haiti ordered to close

The Ministry of Foreign Relations ordered the temporary closing of Dominican consulates in Haiti today, 4 March 2015, as reported in Diario Libre. The government of Haiti was notified that the measure was taken after the recurring aggressions to the missions in recent days on behalf of Haitian groups that have been putting at risk Dominican consular staff. A note from the Ministry was sent to Foreign Minister of Haiti Pierre Duly Brutus. The note says the recent happenings have impeded the normal activities at the consulates. It indicates these will remain closed until the government of President Michel Martelly can guarantee the security of the missions.

Spokesman for the Ministry, Miguel Medina made the announcement to the press.
