Private who escorted Quirino upon arrival is fired

The dismissal of the security corps member who escorted Quirino Ernesto Paulino Castillo after his surprise return to the country on Saturday, 28 February 2015 suggests that the authorities were not informed that the convicted drug dealer would be arriving that day.

Yesterday, Wednesday 4 March 2015, the director of the Specialized Corps of Airport Security and of Civil Aviation (CESAC) revealed that he ordered the dismissal of army private Alex Ramirez Ubri for escorting Paulino Castillo through the Las Americas International Airport in the early hours of Saturday.

General Aracenis Castillo de la Cruz said that private Ramirez Ubri had committed a serious offense of “high treason that sullied the good image of the agency, acting ‘on his own’, behind the backs of his superiors, for which he was dismissed and a dishonorable discharge was recommended.”

According to reports, private Ramirez Ubri is related to Paulino Castillo’s wife.

General Castillo de la Cruz said that as soon as the incident occurred, he ordered a mixed team of investigators who recommended a dishonorable discharge for high treason.

Private Ramirez Ubri is a member of the General Staff Intelligence Directorate (J-2).
