At the Central American Integration System (SICA) summit in Antigua, Guatemala yesterday, Monday 9 March 2015, President Danilo Medina highlighted that SICA would be successful when barriers to trade and integration between the countries were eliminated. He highlighted the importance of involving countries in other parts of the world to help with investment and development in Central America.
President Medina told a group of Central American, Spanish and Dominican business leaders that he believed that public-private alliances were the way forward to deal with the challenges and opportunities for development.
He said that the SICA nations represented more than 50 million people combined and he said that like the European Union, the countries should work together in the areas of investment, cooperation and trade, which is where the businesspeople of the region have a fundamental role to play.
He said that the SICA nations had made significant progress in the areas of judicial security, institutionalism and the transparency of developing businesses
The meeting was attended by National Business Council (Conep) president Rafael Blanco Canto, CCN group president Jose Miguel Gonzalez, Corripio Group vice president Manuel Corripio, Rica Group executive president Pedro Brache, SID Group president Ligia Bonetti, Linda Group board member Lina Garcia, Dominican Industries Association (AIRD) president Campos de Moya, Vicini Group Investment and Strategy committee member Juan Vicini and Frank Elias Rainieri, executive director of the Puntacana Group.
