Consumer groups call for bread boycott

Several consumer rights organizations are calling for a nationwide boycott of all bread products made by local bakers on 24 March. The so-called “Breadless Day” will take place if bakers go ahead with plans to increase the cost of a “pan de agua” bread roll to RD$7.00.

The consumer entities argue that international prices for raw materials have gone down, as well as the price of fuel, so there is no justification for bread prices to go up.

The organizers of the boycott are calling on President Medina to intervene to prevent the price increase.
