Public Health says apples sold here are okay

The Ministry of Public Health says that the caramel-coated apples that were contaminated in the United States are not for sale in the Dominican Republic. The Granny Smith and Gala variety apples were contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes at the Bidart Bros packing facility in Bakersfield, California.

The US Center for Disease Control advised consumers to avoid eating commercially produced, prepackaged whole caramel apples including the brands and types containing nuts, sprinkles, chocolate & other toppings that were manufactured using Bidart Bros. apples. The products were recalled from US stores.

Dr. Luis Emilio Feliz Roa, director of environmental health at the Ministry of Public Health says that the product has not been imported or sold in the Dominican Republic.
