Solutions for San Cristobal beltway, more roads announced

The Ministry of Public Works is pledging to solve the traffic distribution problem on the Haina-Duarte Highway as it crosses the Sanchez Highway within 45 days.

Minister of Public Works Gonzalo Castillo said that on Saturday 7 March 2015 he approved the adjustments required to fix the problems that have caused traffic jams on the new road that cuts travel and time to connect from Haina to the highway leading to the north. He estimates that the beltway means around 40,000 less vehicles will enter Santo Domingo to head to other destinations.

In an interview with the Corripio Communications Group, Castillo commented on the new roadworks to be completed this year to expand the Av. Republica de Colombia in Santo Domingo. The rotunda between INTEC University and the Botanical Gardens will be liminated.

Castillo also mentioned construction of the underpass at the intersection of Privada with 27 de Febrero avenues in Santo Domingo. Other works for Greater Santo Domingo are the overpass at Av. Charles de Gaulle with Mella highway. The Ministry has plans to build eight kilometers of new road from La Caleta to Boca Chica to decongestion this area near Las Americas International Airport.

To be started this year is the repaving and improvement of the Enriquillo to Pedernales road. This will coincide with the start of works for the announced development of the Bahia de las Aguilas beach area.

Also in the south, there are road improvements ongoing for the 6 de Noviembre to San Cristobal, and then from Bani to Azua, and finally on to Barahona and Pedernales. Castillo explained that the problem of the pronounced curves on the Azua to San Juan de la Maguana and Elias Pina provinces was corrected. Under construction is the Azua-Bani bypass that will take traffic through the province with access to new touristic developments in the area, such as Los Corbanitos in Peravia.

The Miches-Sabana de la Mar-Hato Mayor-San Pedro de Macoris road improvements are scheduled to be open for traffic this year.
