Dario Contreras Trauma Hospital in Santo Domingo East resumed consultations for dozens of patients yesterday, Monday 16 March 2015. The patients said they were pleased and surprised at the modernized facilities, some describing them as “the difference between heaven and earth.”
Director Jose Aponte said that by mid-morning of the first day more than 200 patients had been seen. He informed reporters that the hospital had reopened for consultations in orthopedics, maxillofacial services, ophthalmology, neurology, mental health, urology and medical services, and that it would slowly expand into the other areas.
He said that the hospital employees had undergone training to improve the quality of service provided to patients and they were also planning to educate patients on how to look after the hospital.
