United States warns over fake visas

The United States Embassy has re-launched its anti-fraud campaign under the slogan “Ten cuidao con ese maco” (Beware of the frog) to discourage people from trying to get illegal residency and tourist visas for the United States. “Maco” or frog is local slang for something fake or fishy.

US Consul Sylvia Johnson launched the campaign at the La Feria Metro station yesterday, Monday 16 March 2015 along with comedian Fausto Mata who appears in the campaign.

Johnson explained that the campaign is aimed at preventing people from paying large sums of money to fraudsters for fake visas that could mean they could never enter the United States during their lifetime.

It was originally launched in 2007 and has also featured baseball player David Ortiz and comedians Raymond Pozo and Miguel Cespedes.
