Members of the National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) and the National Investigation Department (DNI) have seized nine suitcases full of drugs at Las Americas International Airport that arrived on a private plane from Caracas, Venezuela.
According to an announcement by the DNCD, they are now investigating several people, both military and civilian who looked after the plane when it arrived at 8:50am on Tuesday, 17 March 2015.
10 people were arrested, including the two pilots. They include four Venezuelan men and a woman. Also arrested were four Dominican military, including three members of the Specialized Center for Airport and Civil Aviation Security (CESAC).
According to a reliable source, Dominican authorities received information about the drugs from the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). The drugs were detected using tracker dogs.
The members of the Center for Information and Joint Coordination (CICC) of the DNCD acted after a captain and second lieutenant received the nine carry-on bags from an employee of the airline company.
