DR among LAC countries with an increase in digital books

Latin American editorial production in 2014, measured by the number of titles registered by ISBN, was 4.8% smaller than the same period in 2013, according to the Regional Center for the Promotion of Books in Latin America and the Caribbean. In its last bulletin “Books in Numbers,” this dependency of UNESCO with headquarters in Bogota informs that from January to June 2014 there were 83,162 titles with their ISBN (the International Standard Book Number) in Latin America of which 16,933 were published in a digital format.

Listin Diario reports that digital books made up 20.4% of the total and the percentage is increasing, according to the Center. Digital books comprised over 20% of the titles registered in six of the 19 countries included in the study: Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica, Colombia, Honduras and Brazil. Other countries with outstanding growth in the first semester of 2014 were Guatemala, El Salvador and the Dominican Republic.
