The Ministry of Public Health is advising the public on the proper use of mosquito nets in order to prevent health problems. Insecticide-treated mosquito nets are being distributed in low-income areas to prevent the spread of contagious diseases. Health promoters are instructing beneficiaries to air the nets for 24 hours in an open shady area before using them in their bedrooms.
The ministry issued the statement after receiving complaints that several children had been affected after using the mosquito nets.
The ministry said “the mosquito nets with insecticide are backed by the World Health Organization and the Pan-American Health Organization because they protect people from mosquito bites that transmit malaria and are completely safe when used correctly.
