Haitians denounce their government for delaying documentation

Protestors at the Haitian consulate in Santiago are complaining of the problems they are experiencing in obtaining passports and other identification documents. They told Diario Libre reporters that some applicants had arrived as early as 4am and spent long hours in line but were not able to gain entry to the office.

A priest who advocates the regularization of the status of the Haitians, Father Dario Cruz said that what is worse this year is that the consulate is keeping the documents promising to return them in August or September this year, after the expiry of the National Legalization Plan’s 15 June deadline.
