Freight trucks to Haiti may halt services

The Fenatrado truckers’ association is warning that they will suspend their operations in Haiti if attacks against its drivers there continue.

Fenatrado president Blas Peralta reported that on Saturday, 21 March 2015 several drivers transporting gypsum to a cement factory were injured and 24 of the trucks have broken windows after being pelted with stones and other objects.

Peralta is calling on the Haitian and Dominican authorities to join forces to guarantee the safety of the vehicles, the drivers and their cargo. He added that although the Haitian security forces are supposed to protect the trucks, they do not intervene when faced with attacks from violent groups.
