The Ministry of Public Works Ground Transport and Communications department director, Luis Estrella has warned drivers of heavy vehicles without the corresponding permits to stay off the country’s highways and toll roads during Holy Week. The ban goes into effect at 12 noon on Thursday, 2 April 2015 and lasts until Monday, 6 April at 6am. Only trucks carrying fuel and perishable foodstuffs will be allowed to use the roads.
Estrella also reminded drivers of the 80-kmh speed limit on most of the country’s highways on Thursday, 2 April, from noon until 11pm and on Sunday from 12 noon until 11pm. These restrictions are aimed at reducing traffic accidents during the religious holiday.
