The Dominican Republic has managed to place 19 containers of vegetables and avocados on the Canadian market and will send 34 more containers next Thursday, 2 April 2015. This comes as welcome news for Dominican vegetable producers and exporters after the United States imposed a ban on the entry of these products into its territory. 70% of the consignment contains vegetables, and 30% avocados and are being imported by two Canadian companies. Dominican Agribusiness Board (JAD) executive president Osmar Benitez told El Caribe that the final destination was Toronto.
Benitez encouraged farmers to get in touch with the JAD in order to continue exploring other markets and alternatives for their products. He mentioned that an Italian company had shown interest in purchasing 10 containers of avocados.
