Yesterday, Wednesday 25 March 2015, Judge Mary Perez of the Third Court of Instruction of the Province of Santo Domingo ordered the Venezuelan pilots accused of attempting to fly the jet belonging to fugitive Venezuelan bank president Jose Luis Santoro to be released without charges.
The judge decided not to press charges against the pilots, Alexander Lira, Victor Daniel Alvarez, Armando Jose Gutierrez and Jorge Luis Yzghen and Dominicans Yanduel Caraballo Cabrera and Manuel Valdez Jiminian. She apologized for any inconveniences they may have suffered as a result of the arrests.
The lawyer representing the pilots, Julio Guzman, presented documents to the court proving his clients had entered the country legally to transport the airplane allegedly owned by Venezuelan businessman Jose Baciles, who was also at the courthouse yesterday.
Santoro, who was the president of Banco Peravia when the Superintendence of Banks shut down its operations, is accused of defrauding the bank’s clients.
