PLD re-election talks set for 19 April

President Danilo Medina and former President Leonel Fernandez, who is the president of the ruling PLD party, met yesterday, Thursday, 26 March 2015 at the party headquarters from 8 to 9:40pm. 34 of its 35 members were present. Jose Tomas Perez, who was recently appointed ambassador to the United States, did not attend.

During a press conference at the end of the meeting, party general secretary Reinaldo Pared Perez said that two points had been discussed: the bills for the law of political parties and the electoral regime, as well as the party’s internal process.

During the Political Committee meeting, it was decided that the issue of re-election and other matters linked to the PLD’s participation in the 2016 election would be discussed in a next meeting on Sunday, 19 April 2015.

In addition to Pared Perez, legislators Cristina Lizardo, who is the president of the Senate, and Radhames Camacho, also spoke at the press conference.
