Medina leads Battle of Santiago commemorations

In the presence of President Danilo Medina, a series of events will be held in Santiago today, Monday 30 March 2015, commemorating the 171st anniversary of the Battle of 30 March 1844. The ceremonies begin at 8am, with the raising of the national and municipal flags in the Imbert Park on the avenue of the same name at the intersection of Las Carreras Avenue. Later on, floral tributes will be placed at the statues of the heroes of the movement and historian Edwin Espinal will give a brief talk in the Imbert Park. At 11am a Te Deum Mass will be celebrated by Archbishop Ramon Benito de la Rosa y Carpio. There will be a private luncheon with the President and special guests. At 4pm there will be a military and civilian parade along the Las Carreras Avenue in the presence of President Medina, his ministers, along with governmental and municipal representatives, members of the Catholic hierarchy and prominent members of the private sector. After the parade is over, the President will go to the Instituto Materno Infantil to attend the inauguration of the primary care and advanced medicine centers at this private healthcare facility.
