Throughout the Dominican Republic, most businesses and government offices will close from as early as Wednesday at noon to Thursday. The exceptions are the entertainment and tourism businesses and some major shops that will remain open on Good Friday. The long weekend is especially busy in vacation areas, such as Punta Cana, La Romana, Puerto Plata, Jarabacoa, Constanza, Pedernales, Barahona and Samana. In contrast, traffic slows down to a minimum in Santo Domingo as thousands of city residents head to the provinces to vacation or visit family and friends in their hometowns.
