National Police agents and 911 Emergency System workers rescued an armed man from the roof of the Technical and Professional Institute (Infotep) building in Santo Domingo yesterday, Tuesday 31 March 2015. He had been there since 24 March, and was said to be suffering from dehydration.
The man was identified as Rafael Luciano Vetilie who worked for a security company and had a 12 caliber shot gun.
He was brought down from the roof and said that he had received death threats and that was why he sought refuge on the roof of Infotep, which is located at the intersection of Mexico and Galvan Avenues, near the Presidential Palace. He said that he feared for his life.
The 911 response team managed to borrow a ladder from a telephone company contractor in the area as the fire brigade did not arrive, in order to bring the man down from the roof.
