Attorney General Office appeals Felix Bautista ruling

Yesterday, Monday 6 April 2015, the Specialized Prosecutors Office for Administrative Corruption (Pepca) appealed the ruling issued by the Supreme Court of Justice that prevented the corruption and asset laundering accusations against rags-to-riches senator Felix Bautista from proceeding to trial. Office director Laura Guerrero presented the appeal request.

The 601-page file was delivered to Supreme Court general secretary Grimilda Acosta de Subero in the afternoon. Felix Bautista is the ruling PLD party’s organizational secretary and is regarded by former President Leonel Fernandez as one of his closest aides during his three presidential terms.

As reported in Listin Diario, the next step is for the president of the Supreme Court of Justice, Mariano German Mejia to empower the Second Penal Chamber to review the request.

The Supreme Court ruling also benefited six of Bautista’s close associates, Soraida Abreu Martinez, Jose Elias Hernandez Garcia, Bolivar Antonio Ventura, Carlos Manuel Ozorio, Bienvenido Apolinar Breton and Grisel Aracelis Soler.
