Courts wages increases “illegal” – Participacion Ciudadana

The coordinator of the civil society watchdog group Participacion Ciudadana, Candido Mercedes has described the wage increases for the members of the Constitutional and Higher Electoral Courts as illegal and illegitimate.

Mercedes called for the Ministry of Public Administration to control this kind of decision that he says is in violation of Law No. 105-13 on Dominican State Salary Regulation, as reported in Hoy.

He added that article No. 140 of the Constitution on the regulation of pay increases establishes that:

“No public institution or autonomous entity handling public funds shall provide for an increase in the compensation or benefits received by their incumbents or officers, except for a period following the one for which they were elected or appointed. Failure to comply with this provision shall be punished in accordance with the law.”

Mercedes pointed out that the Medina administration has yet to issue a ruling on government wages to comply with Law 105-13.
