PRD and PRM reject reelection

The spokespersons for the blocs of deputies from the PRD and the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) have declared that they will not support the motion to change the 2010 Constitution to allow for President Danilo Medina to be re-elected.

PRM spokesman Nelson Arroyo stated that any deputies of his party who vote for the modification of the Constitution “will be doing so for money, and so will be expelled from the party ipso facto.”

PRD spokesman Ruddy Gonzalez said that the “bloc of PRD deputies has always maintained a firm stance against re-election, so they will never vote in favor of consecutive presidential re-election.”

He said that “they are living through a very difficult time for the country and very serious questions are being asked about officials and former officials, which are more important than any statements from someone interested in re-election.”
