Hundreds call for resignation of Supreme Court justices

Hundreds of protestors demonstrated outside the Supreme Court of Justice in the Centro de los Heroes yesterday evening, Thursday 9 April 2015 to call for the replacement of the Supreme Court judges. The protest was in reaction to the Supreme Court of Justice rejection of the Attorney General’s request for opening a hearing into charges of administrative corruption and asset laundering against senator Felix Bautista. Bautista is the most prominent case of rags to riches and is regarded as one of the officials of former President Leonel Fernandez to have accumulated wealth in his years in office.

“Let us change the model and the party,” “No to corruption and impunity,” “The people will rise and there will be justice,” were among the slogans chanted by the protestors.

Presidential pre-candidates Hipolito Mejia, Luis Abinader for the PRM and Eduardo Estrella for the DxC also took part.

Parallel protests took place in several towns and cities around the country, as well as in New York City.
