Punta Cana-Miches road opens on Thursday

The newest 72km stretch of the Eastern Roadway Corridor (Corredor Vial del Este) from the Uvero Alto resort area to the town and emerging destination of Miches has been open to traffic for some months now and President Danilo Medina is scheduled to attend the formal opening on Thursday, 16 April 2015. The road, which was built by Brazilian company Odebrecht has 30 bridge access points and average driving speed is 80 km.

The 258km Eastern Roadway Corridor links all the main tourist destinations from the southeast to the east coast. It consists of the completed expressways from San Pedro de Macoris to La Romana, the La Romana Bypass, the Coral Highway and the new Boulevard Turistico de Miches.

The Boulevard Turistico de Miches crosses three provinces – La Altagracia, El Seibo and Hato Mayor. It starts in Bavaro and passes through Macao, Uvero Alto and Miches. The final stretch, once completed, will end in Sabana de la Mar, the gateway to Los Haitises National Park.

The new road access opens up the beaches of Playa La Vacama, Playa Limon, Laguna Limon, Playa Esmeralda, Laguna Redonda and Playa Arriba in Miches for tourism development.
