President approves funds for finishing Peravia aqueduct

President Danilo Medina approved a US$27 million disbursement yesterday, Tuesday 14 April 2015 for completing an aqueduct in the southwestern province of Peravia (Bani).

The project, which was started three years ago, will now be completed in February 2016. The aqueduct is currently 91% complete and the total investment will be US$136 million, reported the Presidency.

Peravia Senator Wilton Guerrero said that the lack of water in the region was a major issue for both homes and for farming.

Budget director Luis Reyes said that the President had authorized the immediate disbursement of US$8 million to the Spanish construction firm, Acciona Agua, and the rest would be released when needed.
