Ambassador James Brewster on Justice and transparency in DR

The United States ambassador to the Dominican Republic, James “Wally” Brewster revealed today, Thursday 16 April 2015 that his frequent visits to the Attorney General of the Republic, Francisco Dominguez Brito, are due to the interest of the United States in fighting corruption and drug trafficking. The added that his country is “worried” about the way justice is handled in the Dominican Republic and he expressed his opinion that the nation should strengthen the rule of law and transparency in this area.

Commenting on a separate issue, Brewster said that convicted drug trafficker Quirino Ernesto Paulino Castillo is acting on his own initiative. He told the press that the United States authorities have had no contact with Paulino since he left jail there.
