Objection to changing 2010 Constitution

The PLD Political Committee’s 19 April 2015 decision to propose a reform of the Constitution so that a President can stand for a one-off consecutive re-election has been met with a wave of reactions. The Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) has warned that if any of their 36 deputies vote in favor of the bill to be presented by PLD legislators, they will be expelled from the party.

PRM general secretary Jesus Vasquez, speaking at a press conference also attended by party president Andres Bautista yesterday, Monday 21 April 2015, said that the party had learned the lessons of the past and apologized for changing the Constitution during Hipolito Mejia’s time in office, and said that was why they were against the reelection of a President.
