The National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) has handed over new coded uniforms to the members of the Agency as a security measure to stop their uniforms from being used for other purposes than in the course of their duty.
DNCD president, Major General Julio Cesar Souffront Velazquez said that this would also stop criminals from using the uniforms to impersonate DNCD agents. Also if the uniform is stolen and recovered they will immediately know from the individual bar code, which agent it belongs to which might also help find any agents who are linked to organized crime.
Souffront Velazquez said that pants, shirts, jackets, gun holsters and shoes are all being handed over with bar codes. This is being implemented at a cost of around RD$26 million and it is hoped it will lead to an increase in arrests linked to drug dealing offences.
