4D cinema coming soon to the Colonial City

Asonahores (National Hotels and Restaurants Association) executive director Arturo Villanueva has announced that Santo Domingo’s Colonial City will soon have the added attraction of the first 4D Cinema in the Caribbean. The Colonial Gate 4D Cinema is a RD$100 million investment and will be centrally located on Calle Isabel La Catolica at the corner with Calle Padre Billini. The opening date is still to be announced.

The plan is for a film that has been produced especially for this innovative project, “The Battle of Santo Domingo,” to be screened at the opening. .

The theater consists of two halls, each with a capacity for 50 spectators. Simultaneous audio translation into nine languages will be included in the price, said project coordinator Cristobal Justiniano.

4D cinemas give viewers the experience of being rocked in their seats and sprayed with water or scents to enhance movie scenes. Seats can shake from side to side and move backwards and forwards in synch with each film’s action scenes.

The technology is relatively new. The first 4D theater in the United States opened in Los Angeles in the summer of 2014.
